If you conduct a scientific experiment or undertake a piece of research, you’ll usually need to write up a corresponding project or lab report, to summarize the objective of your task, the methods you followed, the results you obtained, and the conclusions you drew from your work. Here we provide a sample of great templates for producing such reports, which include layout guidelines to help guide you through the process.

Oscillation Lab
Oscillation Lab
The purpose of this lab was to illustrate the validity of the law of conservation of energy along with the determination of the spring constant of a given spring. For the first part the spring constantk was to be found from a given spring. Through the suspension of various known metal masses on a vertically suspended spring, the spring constant was determined. Two methods were used: the algebraic rearrangement of Hooke's Law and a slope analysis of a linear regression on a Force (N) against Stretch Length (m) scatter plot. The spring constant k was determined to be 26.438 ± 1.063. For the second part of the lab, the aim was to validate the law of conservation of energy through the oscillation of a vertically suspended spring. Data was collected using a Vernier Motion Detector 2 machine and the various energies (kinetic energy, gravitational potential energy and spring potential energy) were collected and summed up. The sum of these energies yielded a fairly constant energy total (2.287 J ± 0.025 J) which supports the authenticity of the law of conservation of energy. While there were some uncertainties due to the lab setup, human error and equipment error it did not affect the validity of the methods during experimentation. Overall, the spring constant k of a given spring was determined and the law of conservation of energy was validated through the calculation of total energy during a suspended mass' oscillation.

Operative Systems Midterm Project
Operative Systems Midterm Project
In this paper, we measure the memory performance throughout the Phoronix test "RAMspeed SMP". We decide to test this specific benchmark because we know how important is the memory for the system performance. This document shows how much the memory performance could change if we modify some variables in the linux kernel.

Inhibition of Bacterial Mutagenesis through Polyubiquitination
Inhibition of Bacterial Mutagenesis through Polyubiquitination
Bacterial cells can have DNA damage due to transcriptional error, or through the effect of an antibiotic. The SOS response is a bacterial cell program for coping with DNA damage, in which the cell cycle is arrested, and DNA repair is induced. The repairs have high probability in leading to mutagenesis in the bacteria, which can lead to antibiotic resistance. The RecA protein in bacteria is responsible for the activation of the SOS response; therefore, making it a target for inhibition. I elected to use the ubiquitination system, natively used for apoptosis, as a means of targeted degradation of the RecA protein in bacteria prone to mutations. Polyubiquitination of misfolded proteins leads to the breaking down of the protein with the aid of proteasomes, which break down unnecessary proteins through a chemical reaction known as proteolysis. Using random forest-predictors, I determined a statistically high likelihood of ubiquitination of the RecA protein in MRSA, Tuberculosis, and other high risk bacterial infections. I hypothesized that I could foster ubiquitin-tagging on RecA by forcing the protein to misfold. Chaperones are proteins which interact with each other to prevent specific sets of proteins from misfolding. CHIP (C terminus of HSC70-Interacting Protein) is a biomolecule that inhibits interactions between the chaperones of RecA. Adding CHIP, ubiquitin, and 26s proteasomes into the bacterial system, should theoretically lead to the degradation of the RecA protein inside the bacteria. I tested my hypothesis by conducting an assay for monitoring CHIP-mediated ubiquitination, and conducted analysis on the assay using SDS- Page gel electrophoresis, and Western-blotting. The resulting data showed signs of polyubiquitination on the RecA protein, with chains of five or more ubiquitin, showing high drug potential. Adding an antibody drug conjugate, containing all the necessary components of a CHIP-mediated ubiquitination reaction, to common antibiotics can lead to the inhibition of bacterial mutagenesis, and higher antibiotic drug potency.

Physical Interactions of Simple Tools with JSC-1A Regolith Simulant
Physical Interactions of Simple Tools with JSC-1A Regolith Simulant
As part of the NASA IMPACT program to model mechanical interactions with bodies in space such as comets, asteroids, and other Near Earth Objects (NEOs), the Colorado School of Mines team is designing a motor stage apparatus to interact with JSC-1A regolith simulant surfaces. This initial study involved development and testing of a prototype motor stage apparatus which was used to drive three types of probes into JSC-1A surfaces while collecting force data under standard Earth atmospheric conditions. The probes used were a conical-tipped probe, a wedge-tipped probe, and an anchoring probe. Main goals of the prototype system were to acquire general force trends for each interaction, and to isolate the most important design features for a more-complex in-vacuum system. Our data revealed force interactions that were very small in magnitude—on the order of tenths of Newtons—and more complex than our simple stiff beam probe and mount model could accurately predict. Our results lead us to recommend a more complex experimental model that can accurately represent deflection in the probes while also allowing for better measurement of regolith movement near the tip of the probes. Specifically, we recommend the following design features for the in-vacuum system: a load cell capable of measuring at very low ranges (thousandths of Newtons), reliability of structural axis alignment between trials, a robust mounting system that can accommodate each different type of probe, and consistency of sample preparation between trials.
