Including displayed mathematics (equations and formulae)

This is video #11 in a series of twenty one by Dr Vincent Knight of Cardiff University.

In addition to including mathematics within a sentence, we can display equations and formulae on their own. In this tutorial we see how to write simple equations, and introduce the commands \frac for fractions and \sum for summations.

To try this for yourself, open the 'Displayed mathematics' example (opens in a new tab/window) from the video, which you can edit online with writeLaTeX.
