  • Linking bioRxiv and writeLaTeX

    Posted on May 13, 2014

bioRxiv is a non-profit online archive and distribution service for pre-prints in the life sciences. Since their launch last year we've had numerous requests for a quick submission link between writeLaTeX and bioRxiv, and we're pleased to announce that this has now arrived!

Under the publish menu in the writeLaTeX editor you'll now see the option to submit your paper to bioRxiv

The option for submissions to the bioRxiv from writeLaTeX is very straightforward. It gives you quick links to download the paper files (including the pdf) and provides a direct link to the bioRxiv submission page.

bioRxiv accepts preprints of articles covering all aspects of research in the life sciences but does not accept clinical studies or clinical trials.

Articles in the physical sciences, mathematics, or social sciences should only be posted on bioRxiv if they have direct relevance to the life sciences, but you may have spotted from the screenshot above that we have a similar link in place to the arXiv.

The arXiv is an open repository for scientific preprints in fields including mathematics, physics, astronomy, computer science, quantitative biology, statistics, and quantitative finance. With close to a million pre-prints freely available, the arXiv is the first port of call for most mathematicians and physicists when looking at new research, and it's great to see bioRxiv providing a complementary service for pre-prints in the life sciences.

Create a new paper today to start writing, and let us know if you submit your work to an open repository from writeLaTeX - we'd love to hear about it.

PS: For all your supplementary material, why not submit it to figshare!

Note: although many journals encourage/allow posting on preprint servers such as bioRxiv and arXiv prior to publication, you should check the policy of your intended publication journal before submission.
